We were at the culture club event here at Zingerman's Coffee Co. These people are really into it and know their stuff. We enjoyed the learning experience and being with fellow Yelpers today. I think they do this kind of thing on a scheduled basis, so you might want to give them a call to find out when they are next going to do it. First we took a tour of the roasting facility and they explained how they process coffees. Then we sampled three different kinds of varietal coffees and tried pairings with other foods such as prosciutto, chocolate, coffee cake, cheese and fruit. It was a very nice experience because at home you don't usually make three kinds of coffee to try side by side, not do you have the opportunity to try the pairing combinations. We bought some nice fresh beans while were there. The other cool thing is that along the same street is the Zingerman's bake house and the Zingerman's Creamery. So we stopped in and bought a nice Detroit Street Round (my favorite) at the Bakehouse. Thanks to Annette for setting this up.

Once again Zingerman's Coffee Co. pleases. Although the place looks cold when you enter, you'll warm right up and feel right at home very quickly. I think some of it has to do with the care they put into making and serving the coffee. This definitely has to become more of a fixture on my schedule.

Zingerman's Coffee is definitely not in a typical location, but that is OK. They serve the market they are in. The attention to coffee is excellent. Baristas care and are well trained to create great coffee and espresso beverages. The atmosphere is unique and not my typical hang out, but that is also its charm. I do not like cookie cutter locations and this place has unique all over it. The ability to brew coffees in various methods is risky, but good training makes it work. They are a Zingerman's partner for sure...and that's a good family to be a member of. Nice job Allen and crew!

What!?! John H. giving ONLY a three-star to a place with Zingerman's in its name? Yes, it's true. I experienced really fine service, like you'd expect from Zingerman's, and a really good latte. I suppose my lack of enthusiasm is due, in part, to the location. It may be convenient for shipping, being near the airport and interstate, but there's not much charm in the building. And the fuss made about beans from a single estate is still beyond my ability to appreciate. It's like when my wine friends break out a first-growth Bordeaux, and I'm not sure that I can tell the difference between the expensive bottle and the mid-priced bottle, (dare I say that sometimes the taste seems inversely related to the price). I like good coffee beans, and purchased two pounds. But, for my limited palate, I can't justify the 30% premium I paid here.

I have been here often...probably reviewed it before as well. It does not change...they roast great coffee and then they have multiple brewing options which lead to a perfect cup of coffee! They even have a great chart now which shows the current roasts and what they tasted in all of their extraction methods! Wonderful experience and place to go for coffee aficionados!

Found this place just off the freeway as I was driving from Kalamazoo to Detroit. Offers an excellent variety of high quality coffee. Better still, they let you choose exactly how you want your coffee brewed. Comfortable environment that's cool without being hipster.

My favorites from Zingerman's bakeshop and coffee company are the breve and the hummingbird cake. I am a HUGE fan of the little strip they have clumped together on Plaza. Best spot ever.

So happy that I found this place while on a recent business trip. Everyone there was incredibly friendly and the coffee was outstanding. I tried a couple coffee spots while out in Ann Arbor, and this one won hands down. Highly recommended!

They KNOW coffee here. (That may be an understatement) Zingerman's Coffee Co. was kind enough to hold a coffee tasting event for Yelpers a couple weeks back and I had the privilege of attending. I learned a ton about the differences between regional varieties and which tastes bring out the qualities in food. They taught us the difference in bean quality between the grades of coffee and even took us into the back room to show us the roaster. Nice facilities and equipment + educated and friendly staff = terrific coffee.

What makes me rate this place with five stars? They have a much better coffee than in the Kerrytown location, super friendly staff and a nice modern appeal. Seems to me that the real coffee professionals work here and not in the other Zingerman locations. Absolutely worth a trial.

Only got coffee to go but it was tasty and freshly brewed. Cool place if you're really into coffee (like me). They have lots of coffee brewing paraphernalia and also do coffee roasting on premise, which you can watch through a big window. Not in a particularly convenient location unless you're staying in a hotel on S State St, like we were. Definitely recommend.

Zingerman's Coffee Co made me a coffee connoisseur! Before frequent visits here I have to say I knew very little about the wonderful world of the bean save for sips here and there of the stuff. I never really got into it the same way I did chocolate, honey, or wine. BUT after enjoying some tastings during Culture Club I got to really learn about how the coffee is roasted and how it pairs with food. I never gave much thought to how food could influence coffee flavor but let me tell you--it DOES. My least favorite of the three coffees we sampled suddenly became my favorite when paired with a piece of salty, fatty, prosciutto. It. Blew. My. Mind. But then again they blow my mind on the regular. With a variety of beans and roasts from all over the world they really know what they're doing over there and they are super passionate about what they do. Sure, that's par for the course with Zingerman's but they really go above and beyond here. Everyone there I have ever spoken to there is a gem. They're all just so knowledgeable and nice. If you want to learn more they even offer classes like Comparative Cupping and Brewing Methods--just keep an eye out on their website for when these classes come up! If you're not a coffee kind of person (although I promise you you will become one if you give them a try!) I can also vouch for their awesome hot chocolate. Tis the season for a steaming cup with one of the fantastic Zingerman's marshmallows. One of my favorite treats!

My Mecca is in an industrial park. I have probably never had higher expectations entering a food-service establishment. And I have never been more surprised to find my expectations exceeded. You see, I LOVE Zingerman's coffee. I buy it regularly both at Moonwinks Cafe and at my local Busch's supermarket. I would even venture to say that their Guatemalan coffee is my all-time favorite. Actually going to the coffee company was like my haj--or my pilgrimage to Jerusalem or something. Let me start my review with the one thing better than the Zingerman's product--the people they employ. I got to meet three great people at the store today. One was a customer. The other two were the baristas. They could not have been kinder or more dedicated. There are a lot of options at the coffee bar, and I gained an education as they walked me through coffees and brewing methods. The amazing part of the coffee bar is that you get to choose out of any of Zingerman's Awesome coffees...and you can have them prepared in several unique ways. Today, I tried the Papau New Guinea prepared using the Chemex method and the Ethiopia Sidamo prepared with the Vietnamese Vacuum Pot (it looks like a coffee bong with a camp stove underneath it) Method. When the barista tasted one of the methods and was not satisfied, we were not charged for the drink. The whole experience was more than I expected. I was so impressed, I bought a t-shirt. I will gladly advertise for an establishment this Awesome. And I will be back :)

This is the place for the best tasting coffee in Ann Arbor. The location is a real compromise- an industrial park where beans are received, analyzed, roasted, wholesale/retail packaged, shipped out, and where brewing classes are taught. The retail/serving/dining area is integrated. This is not a place you can happen upon while strolling. An adjacent Zingerman's creamery and bakery are added pluses (the bake goods are as good as you imagine. I have not sampled the creamery) You have multiple choices of different origin beans, blends, roasts, grinds, and brewing methods. Fascinating stuff for us OC people. Gosh, the baristas are nice people. Clean, neat environment. Good wifi. Eclectic music. Weekend mornings are busy. It is very worth the drive for me.

We were faced with a giant grid of coffee right when we walked in, and were amazed by the selection. The employees were very helpful in choosing what coffees to get, and we ended up getting a Vanilla Latte. They apparently make the vanilla syrup in house and literally split the vanilla bean there. The drink was very smooth and was one of the best I've had. :)

I'm obsessed. Every time I'm in A2 - and I don't care how far out of the way it is - I make a stop at Zingerman's Coffee. And of course their coffee is incredible. I love how they give you an option of brewing methods for a little extra - from Chemex to French press. That goes to show how nerdy they and their clientele is over coffee. Name the origin, they have it. I'm totally going to drag someone here for a class with me sometime.

This place makes all other coffee shops seem amateur by comparison. Like all Zingermans businesses, best customer service ever. The people working here seem like they are genuinely happy to see you come through the door. Baristas are friendly, knowledgeable, and unpretentious. Espresso drinks? Best I've had anywhere, ever, hands-down. Suprisingly reasonable prices. The atmosphere is kind of like you're in a laboratory but I don't mind. It could maybe use a little more comfy seating. It's fun to watch them roasting the beans through the window. Coming here made me wish Starbucks would just get sucked into a portal that leads to another dimension. This is the real deal. I have seen the light!!!

If you're interested in coffee, get thee to Zingerman's Coffee Roastery. Allen has just installed (and adjusted) a super-primo water filtration system that is making a big difference in their coffee. They are really getting just the right mix of elementals out of (and in to) the water before the coffee gets near it. I tasted the difference in the straight water, in the espresso, and even in the paper cup take-out cappuccino that I'm enjoying right now. Zingerman's Coffee got game.

Full disclosure time - I work for another Zingerman's business. I would not give five stars to every Zingerman's business, but I stand behind these five with the confidence that this is one of the coolest companies I have ever encountered. Why? Because the Coffee Company considers every variable that goes into a great cup of coffee and aims for perfection in each regard. Each type of bean is sourced from a single estate (unlike most other coffees, which are usually sourced from multiple estates, if not multiple regions). The Coffee Company pays a premium to get the beans sorted so that the stock is consistent (does anyone else bother with that?). Batches of beans are roasted on-site at the Coffee Company, according to the specific type of bean (again, quite uncommon). Now, you could buy the coffee at this point and take it home to brew, but if I were you, I'd let the experts do it for you. As Barnaby noted, the CC is outfitted with a deluxe water filtration system and they keep the beans for only two weeks. Freshness and purity are essential. When you order an espresso drink, the beans are ground to order. Capps and lattes are made with Calder Dairy milk and are served in durable, thick, insulated plastic cups (Bodum, I'm guessing) that maintain the heat all the way to the bottom of the bev. My capp was so hot that I thought it was burnt, at first. But the flavor was right on. In actuality, a 150 degree drink is hot, but glassware chills it immediately. Not so at the Coffee Company. I love hanging out there. It feels like a chemistry lab, with it's broad, clean spaces and steely high top tables. You can get your coffee brewed any way you like, from drip to French Press to pour-over. The environment encourages experimentation, and really you can't go wrong when you're using perfect ingredients.

Fantastic blends, roasting on premises (seriously, you can watch,) great customer service, a variety of brewing options, and intelligent baristas without having to deal with the pseudo-cerebral philosophy majors down near the U of M Campus - sounds like a winner to me. Sure you can pick up many of their blends elsewhere, but why? Get over here, grab some pastries (or even just samples) from the Bakeshop, and have some great fair trade brew.

This place is DOPE! A uber cool coffee establishment that is not like the rest. If you want really good coffee, NO GREAT coffee, then this is the place for you. Fact is, it's all about the DEE-LICIOUS roasts and how they make them. You can watch the beans being roasted if you go at the right time. It's through a big window. Love them, love them, love them!

My favorite coffee house -- everyone, in true Zingerman's style, is helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and dedicated to top-notch service. Try the mocha with soy milk; it adds a subtle nuttiness that pairs with the chocolate they use in a delightfully tasty way. They're making their own vanilla syrup which works well in cappuccinos and lattes. Or, for a more uncomplicated day, try one of their dozen different coffees brewed in a variety of methods - pour-over, chemex, aeropress, press pot or vaccuum pot! Grab a Zang! Bar or small pastry to go with, a pound of beans for home and it's a fine way to usher in a day.

I've been coming to this location for years. I used to be a regular when I worked in Ann Arbor but I still manage to visit every couple of weeks for a cup and a bag or two of whole beans. The staff and ownership is amazing. Back in 2009, I think, Allan gave me advice on a drip coffee maker and burr grinder, both of which I still use daily. Prior to this, I never brewed quality coffee at home. I am very thankful for this, as it saved me a lot of money in the long run! I really enjoy their PNG, French, and Brazilian Peaberry varieties. The only downside is the cost, as it's more expensive than Roo's Roast or Ugly Mugg beans. However, the consistency and know-how of roasting really stands out.

Zingerman's is a great Ann Arbor brand. They cover every possible avenue, having a deli, creamery, Road House, and a coffee shop. When looking up their Yelp profile, I was surprized that they only had 9 reviews at the time, considering many of their other establishments have 10 times that. Once i mapped the location and drove out to it, i quickly understood why the low number of reviews. Its location is very random, being a industrial strip mall. We went in to order a latte each, i had the caramel and my sis the vanilla. As always, the service at Zingerman's was friendly and we even got offered a free sample of their palmiers. As for the latte it was more of a flavoured coffee. It did have the latte art but is dissparaed quickly, overall it was good, but dit id not have a strong espresso flavour. I love the actual shop, even though it is in a very lack luster space, they use mixmatched furniture to make it kinda comfy. One plus as well is that they roast their own coffee in house and you can watch them do it. Overall i enjoyed the vibe and surroundings better than the latte itself but i am still a huge Zingerman's fan.

Slayer! In a word, this reveals the dedication, passion, quality and the Zingerman's experience you can expect here. Zingerman's Coffee is one of only 20 shops to have this machine nationally, but that's not enough; whereas other shops get it out and use it as a gag to get customers in the store, Zing's kept it in the back of the shop, quietly perfecting the machine's truly amazing capabilities. I have been to the shop twice in the past month or so; first, I finally was able to go to one of the "2nd Saturday" Open Houses, where one of the managers gave a tour, answered, questions, and offered a blind tasting. Very informational and interesting to see how they do what they do (cool use of vacuums...). However, my most recent visit is why I write this review. I saw the machine in its unique form immediately and was curious as a former barista, but could not have expected what I tasted: even a "bad," blond shot tasted better than anything at a corporate shop and as good as shots from most of the better shops I've visited; the body/mouthfeel of shots at Zingerman's Coffee is unique. Espresso is my drink of choice; Alton's "poco ma buono" indeed. I sometimes drink coffee, rarely drink anything with milk to taint the rich, dark taste, and I THOUGHT I do not like americanos....when you come here, get a small americano in addition to whatever else you drink; you will not be disappointed. Thank you to the engineer-barista for teaching me what an americano should taste like!! I have tried a few coffees here: French Roast, Brazil, and Sumatra are the ones I remember. If you like coffee, come here and have it brewed with one of the unique methods you can't get anywhere else: Vietnamese, vacuum pot, and so many more you will not see anywhere else. However, the beans are expensive to buy whole bean and take with you; that is my one complaint, when you can buy COE for not much more. With the Slayer ready to pull shots like that, though, I can't see why you would get anything else besides espresso on the southside (ask to look at the reflective strip while it pulls; a thing of beauty...). Comet Coffee and Zingerman's Coffee are the only two shops to consider in Ann Arbor. Period.

There is some good coffee being made in Ann Arbor. I needed some extra pep in my step before my drive home. Zingerman's took care of this. I bought a 1 lb bag and brewed some today. It was very tasty. I had a good conversation with one of the staff members about how the Great Lakes region is awesome. He was originally from Fontana, CA and moved out to Ann Arbor. It was good to talking with the guy and he had some good takes on life. I love coming to a roastery and see where all the magic happens.
